Celebrating 30 years of Roasting Central America's Finest Coffees

We are Costa Rica's Premiere Gourmet Coffee Company headquartered in Tres Rios Cartago with two roasting operations.

The original owner was Michael Pierpont who moved from Santa Barbara California to Costa Rica in 1990.  Michael entered the coffee business because he was not satisfied with the other local coffees he was selling in his first gift store. "I knew there was better coffee available.  I discovered 29 years ago the wonderful taste of  the coffees from the Tarrazu region.  I was so impressed with these coffees I  sold my Range Rover to buy our first hand made small batch roaster".

In 2010 Sun Burst moved to a beautiful new facility close to the International Airport at Liberia where our guest can buy fresh form the roaster Costa Rica's finest coffees at our factory prices. We also offer a nice selection of beautiful handcrafted 100% Costa Rican products including exotic woods, ceramics, tee shirts, salsas and much more. In August 2006 we expanded our operations into the United States by opening our new roasting facility Austin Texas. We are importing the very best green coffees from Central America to roast, pack and ship from Austin.  “Now our U.S. customers can enjoy their Sun Burst Coffees that are roasted to order delivered fresh within a few days” which has been one of our most important goals.

In 2013 Michael married his Coffee Supplier securing our supply of the best Costa Rican coffee.  His wife was the manager of the largest export coffee mill for almost 15 years and now she has her own green Coffee export company. The Pierpont Group now complete with an export company, three roasting operations and two retail outlets. As of July 2023 Michael has retired and given the company to his wife to run.

Great news for our Costa Rican Customers & Visitors in 2020

We opened our third location in the Central Valley east of San Jose in Tres Rios in March of 2020. With two locations in Costa Rica we can now better serve both locals and visitors. We are building a new Costa Rican website and will have express delivery to both homes and hotels throughout Costa Rica.
